our projects

At Discovery Academy, one of our most important and favorite things is taking learning outside of the classroom. This is a small snapshot of the projects, activities, and field trips we engage in during the school year.

Humane society Donations

Earlier this year, Discovery Academy spent the week collecting donations and making informational posters for the Grand Strand Humane Society. Showing appreciation for and giving back to our community is an important aspect of our program.

02

Pumpkin inquiry

We love science! One of our favorite inquiry-based units has been our pumpkin discovery. After Halloween, we investigated the insides, outsides, and in-betweens of pumpkins and gourds. The most surprising thing we learned was that even small pumpkins have hundreds of seeds!

inclusive playground design

At the beginning of the school year we engaged in an inquiry unit where we studied and built an inclusive playground. We visited Savannah's Playground for hands-on research and inspiration.

04

animal shelter volunteering

A major part of our program is instilling a love for nature, animals, and the environment into our students. We had the privilege of volunteering our time at Kind Keeper Animal Rescue to help them make and fill doggie treat bags. This was one of our favorite field trips of the year!
